Fairy Rings, Entrances to The Spirit World

Fairy circles, also known as fairy rings, are circles of mushrooms that are said to be created by fairies dancing in a circle. The idea of fairy circles has a long history in folklore and spirituality, with many different beliefs and interpretations attached to them.

In European folklore, fairy circles were believed to be the entrances to the fairy world. It was said that if you stepped inside a fairy circle, you would be transported to the fairy realm and would be unable to return to the human world. Many stories warn of the dangers of disturbing a fairy circle, as the fairies who created it would become angry and curse those who interfered.

In some cultures, fairy circles were believed to be places of great spiritual power. People would often leave offerings at the edge of a fairy circle, such as flowers or coins, to appease the fairies and gain their favor. It was also believed that if you were able to see a fairy circle, it was a sign that the fairies were watching over you and would bring you good luck.

In more recent times, fairy circles have been explained as a natural phenomenon caused by a type of fungus called Marasmius oreades, which grows in a circular pattern. However, this does not necessarily mean that the spiritual and mystical beliefs associated with fairy circles are invalid. Many people still see them as powerful and magickal places, and continue to leave offerings and perform rituals at fairy circles as a way to connect with the spiritual world.

One of the oldest and most well-known fairy circles is the one in the UK, located in the Tinsley Green. It is said that the fairy ring in Tinsley Green is over 400 years old and has been the site of many rituals and ceremonies throughout history. Many people still visit this fairy circle to this day to leave offerings and perform rituals in hopes of gaining the favor of the fairies and tapping into the spiritual power of the circle.
